OBJECTIVE:

To build a forward-looking creative music program, fusing the study of classical music theory and practice with experimental approaches and ideas of “remix”, as related to popular culture and current subcultures.

COMPOSITION ACTIVITY:
Projects and Commissions:

• Commission from the Contemporary Museum in Baltimore, MD, to produce a soundtrack for multi-media artist Kianga Ford's "A Story Of This Place: Charm City Remix". Music for a walking tour and recorded narrative, exploring historical layers of the city through fictional characters (2008)
• Film score for "M9" commissioned by Joseph Zohar, Moving Box Productions (2008)
• Remix of Frederic Rzewski's "Coming Together", composing electronic backing track and performing live processing on my voice as narrator. Performance on first concert of Mobtown Modern concert series, which I am co-curating with saxophonist Brian Sacawa, in partnership with the Contemporary Museum (2008)
• Formation of unique non-traditional chamber ensemble Hybrid Groove Project, with saxophonist Brian Sacawa, releasing original music through Innova Recordings (2006)
• Collaboration with singer/composer Du Yun, songs released through Tag Team Records (2006)
• Commission from bassoonist Dana Jessen, composition scored for bassoon and turntables/electronics (2006)
• Film score for "Chalk Outlines" commissioned by filmmaker Joseph Zohar, Moving Box Productions (2006)
• Commission from Ithaca College Percussion Ensemble, composition scored for DJ and percussion quartet (2005)
• Live mix in collaboration with the Human Studies Film Archive of the Smithsonian Institution, performed with turntables and laptop, commissioned for Ithaca College's First Year Reading Initiative remix entitled Dismantling War, with renowned VJ and IC Distinguished Artist Art Jones (2005)
• Received Meet The Composer grant as part of multimedia project whatWALL?, University of Michigan (2004)
• Doctoral dissertation composition entitled Mandala of the Four Directions: a ritual cantata for 4 singers and 4 ensembles (2004)
• Commission from International Contemporary Ensemble, composition scored for tenor/narrator and chamber ensemble (2002)
• Received John Knowles Paine Traveling Fellowship (Harvard University) to pursue documentary-performance project on human relationship to water in different regions across the United States, culminating in a piece for live instruments with water-related sounds and video (2001-02)
